Oregon Ironwood Half Log
Oregon Ironwood Half Log
Oregon Ironwood is the densest native tree in Oregon! In fact, it sinks in water. Colors range from brown to pink in the heartwood with a yellowish sapwood. If you prefer completely check-free material, this species may not be the best fit, as checks can develop during the drying process. However, for those who can work with natural character, this wood offers excellent workability and a fine, attractive grain that makes it well worth the effort. This Oregon Ironwood is freshly cut; it is completely wax sealed to slow the drying process and minimize checking. It is ideal for turned articles, knives, and inlay. Most pieces have a live edge. Live edges often contain checks and splits. This piece has checks, splits, inclusions, and soft rot. Please see pictures for details.
