Bubinga Veneer (22" x 11-3/4" x 1/32")

Ships to USA only! African Rosewood, Kevasingo, or Bubinga, is a colorful, dense species from Africa's West Coast. Though not a true Rosewood, it is denser than several Rosewoods. Colors range from red and brown to violet tones. Our special log was sliced for us in Europe by the best veneer mill in the World. All veneer is dry and ready to use. As with most figured veneer it will not be perfectly flat and will require proper veneer application techniques. Additionally, it is common to have 1-2" end splits and/or checks. Please expect to work with these checks. It is typical for the edges to be slightly frayed or rough (approximately 1/16" to 1/4" into each edge). Please factor this into your final width. Most sheets are very clean and nice. The heartwood may contain several pin holes but they are scarce and most pieces do not have any. EACH SHEET SOLD SEPARATELY: 1 SHEET INCLUDED.

Extra Fancy Madrone Burl Veneer (10-1/2 x 12 x 1/32)

Madrone is known as Strawberry tree, Madrona, or Madrone burl.  This is a unique Pacific hardwood that has pink & tan colors with an occasional red streak. Our Madrone blanks are highly burled & figured. Through our proprietary process, the wood has been pressure cooked to relieve tension and then partially air dried.  These pieces are ideal for gallery grade projects and high end woodworking as well as Bass and Electric guitars. Trees are typically 10” up to 30” diameter and between 40-70’ tall.  Trunks are smooth as silk due to the tree shedding its bark continually.  Logs are rarely straight so lumber over 10’ long is a rarity.  Random trees growing in mixed stands of Douglas fir produce the best lumber as the trunk is long and relatively strait.  Trees in the open are much more bushy with many limbs that will not produce good lumber.  Burls grow almost exclusively underground and must be dug up sometimes by hand and then pressure cooked and milled.  Many Madrone trees grow in areas that have many rocks so our sawyers have their hands full milling around the rocks and dirt pockets that are present in every burl.  This is expensive due to the large number of saw blades that are destroyed and the large amount of labor milling this. As with most figured veneer it will not be perfectly flat and will require proper veneer application techniques. Additionally, it is common to have 1-2” end splits and/or checks. Please expect to work with these checks. It is typical for the edges to be slightly frayed or rough (approximately 1/16” to ¼” into each edge). Please factor this into your final width. May have incursions near burl eyes. Pattern varies, but we always try to match as close as we can. Sizes listed have taken into account any end/edge checks that may be present. Brazilian Cherry Veneer (35 x 8-5/8 x 1/32)

Known as Jatoba in Brazil, Brazilian Cherry is a large tree with white blossoms above the rainforest canopy; these scattered trees are a remarkable sight when flying over at a low altitude. Generally, trees grow in a range from Southern Mexico to South/Central Brazil. Jatoba is dense and durable and has become a favorite for flooring and cabinet manufacturing. Rich, warm coloration varies with combinations of reds, golden browns, and green streaks that are more pronounced than American Cherry. There are usually interesting patterns in the wood as well. The listed sizes are a bit smaller than the actual size to account for any rough edges and checks. 1 VENEER INCLUDED IN THE PRICE.

Eucalyptus Burl Veneer (15 x 8 x 1/32)

Native to Southeastern Australia and the island of Tasmania, this is a large evergreen tree that grows up to 297 ft. tall and 6 ft. or more in diameter with most growing from 100-175 ft. feet tall. The tallest currently known specimen in Tasmania is currently 297 ft.  The natural distribution of the species includes Tasmania and southern Victoria (particularly the Otway Ranges and southern Gippsland). This species was planted in Hawaii in 1865 after being successfully planted in Western California in 1856 from Australian seeds.  Blue Gum trees have been a part of the California landscape since the Gold Rush.  They were planted in huge numbers well before the timber speculation wave hit. Part of the reason for planting the trees was for windbreaks on farms and orchards, as seedlings can grow 25 feet per season for several years after planting, and don't need much additional help growing. Tasmanian Blue Gum leaves are used as a therapeutic herbal tea.  The flowers of the tree are a good source of nectar and pollen for bees.  The tree has naturalized in California and Hawaii and about 1915 was starting to be viewed as an invasive species in California.  As of 2014 this Australian Blue Gum is considered the #1 invasive exotic species in California so you are helping to restore California’s original ecosystem by using this unique, dense evergreen.  The wood is closer to the density and working properties of Brazilian hardwoods than any hardwoods that are native to North America. Pieces are larger than listed, but edge/end checking accounted for. 1 VENEER INCLUDED IN PRICE

English Walnut Burl Veneer Sheet (21" x 7" x 1/32")

English Walnut, Juglans regia emanates from Circassia in the Caucasus and is the original Walnut of Europe. This tree was prized for its walnuts and was planted all throughout Europe and England. Color variations are due to the varied climates and soil conditions in which the trees grows. Juglans walnut is translated to "White Walnut" so finding dark striping and marble cake figure is the rare exception. This wood has been prized for centuries for firearm stocks and fine furniture. It works and finishes much like American Black Walnut. As a burl, there are bark incursions or pin holes throughout these pieces. The listed sizes are a bit smaller than the actual size to account for any rough edges and checks. 1 VENEER INCLUDED IN THE PRICE.

Curly Hawaiian Koa Veneer (18-1/2 x 6-3/8 x 1/32)

Hawaiian Koa has been treasured for hundreds of years by the Hawaiians. They have used it for anything from outrigger canoes, paddles, boxes, furniture, to recently Ukuleles. It is an excellent tone wood which produces a rich, warm sound. Supply of Koa is getting scarce as the Hawaiians have only recently started replanting their beloved Hawaiian Koa trees. Koa is renowned for its iridescent shimmer and luscious color which ranges from tan to warm gold with brown and black accents. The iridescence in this wood is particularly exceptional on the quarter. Workability of Hawaiian Koa is similar to Genuine Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla). It has open grain and works well. Size of piece may be bigger than listed to account for any end or edge checks present. 1 VENEER INCLUDED IN THE PRICE.

Figured Makore Quartered Veneers (22-1/2 x 9 x 1/32)

This African hardwood is also commonly known as African Cherry, yielding a finished product with rich pink & golden colors. It has a high silica content in it so it is not the best for machinability but it is worth the effort due to its beauty. One of the contributing factors to its often present mottled figure and chatoyant shimmer is its interlocked grain. Africa. Tieghemella heckelii. Size of piece may be bigger than listed to account for any end or edge checks present. These were sliced off of the mill wet at 1/32”, but minor shrinkage sometimes occurs during drying, yielding pieces that are thinner than 1/32”. This material is dry. 1 VENEER INCLUDED IN THE PRICE.
