Collection: Mora, Yellow

Yellow Mora, Morus insignis, is a Central American hardwood from Guatemala. It is a medium sized tree with heights reaching up to 90-120 ft. and diameters of 18 - 36”.  The wood is very dense with a specific gravity that ranges from .80 to 1.0. Heartwood is a golden yellow/orange color with clearly defined light colored sapwood. A high luster is present on rift and quartersawn pieces due to strong interlocked grain.  Good tonal properties exist in the quarter and rift sawn boards that would be suitable for ukuleles and other instruments. Although Mora is difficult to work and causes moderate blunting of tools, the high polish and beautiful luster make it worth the effort.
