Siberian Elm (Ulmus pumila) is a versatile hardwood native to Central Asia, known for its attractive interlocked grain, warm natural coloring, and impressive size. This large deciduous tree can grow up to 70 feet tall and reach trunk diameters of up to 4 feet, producing substantial lumber with plenty of possibilities for woodworking projects. The wood ranges from light tan and golden hues to medium reddish-brown, often with attractive variation and character, while the interlocked grain adds visual movement and interest. With a Janka hardness of approximately 1,000 lbf and a specific gravity of around 0.50, Siberian Elm offers a nice balance of strength and workability.
