Collection: Tamboti

Tamboti, Spirostachys africana, is a small to medium sized hardwood from South Africa that can also go by the name African Sandalwood. The tree grows to heights of 25 to 45 feet with diameters ranging from 12 to 18 inches. The wood is very dense with a specific gravity of .81 to .96 and a Janka hardness of 2,480 lbf/in2. Tamboti colors range from golden brown to reddish brown with sapwood that can turn yellow as it ages. It takes a lovely, high natural polish and can have areas of wonderful natural luster. This species has a moderate blunting effect on tools. The sawdust can be irratating to the skin and eyes, so correct PPE is recomended, such as a full face respirator, long sleeves, and latex gloves. Tambotii is a prized South African hardwood that is commonly used to make carvings, high end turned articles, and other specialty wood products.
