Pterocarpus indicus, Red Narra, is the tree that produces Amboyna Burl. Originally emanating from the Island of Amboyna, it is also from Borneo and other Southeast Asian countries. Used primarily for furniture, Red Narra has become very scarce and is even difficult to obtain in veneer form in America. The wood is dense and coarse, making it difficult to work and finish. Despite the shortcomings of the workability of this species it turns well and takes a nice high polish. Red Narra is a beautiful wood in short supply.
