Goncalo Alves, also known as Tigerwood or South American Zebrawood originates on the East Coast of Brazil. Huge logs up to six feet in diameter are available, but these large logs usually lack the beautiful dark streaking that makes this wood so desirable. Naturally oily, the wood is dense and takes an incredible polish. We have an exclusive arrangement with several large Brazilian sawmills to pull the most colorful and figured wood for our customers! This is usable for pens, knives, furniture, pistol grips, turned boxes, bowls, peppermills, intarsia, inlay, and many other fancy applications! Using the twice turned method is a great idea for Tigerwood that still contains moisture. Find wood tips and information about twice turning in our Wood FAQs.
