Pyinma and Almond Burl

Pyinma and Almond Burl

Pyinma: Pyinma is a beautiful, highly figured exotic hardwood that can have deep penetrating curl. Originating from S.E. Asia, it is also called Asian Satinwood on the US market. Trees are typically 40-75' tall with diameter of 2-3' average with some larger. This tree also produces un-figured stock that is used for cabinets, floors, and other projects in Asia. The wood is stable in service with darker colors than Eastern Maples. It is susceptible to surface checks and pin holes before drying. Excellent for pool cues, knives, duck calls, bowls, vessels, and pen stock. This species produces some of the deepest 3-Dimensional curl in the World. Burls are rare in this species, but when obtained, yield tight and exceptional patterns!

Almond Burl: Almond burl is an exceptionally rare burl from Laos that contains vivid, rich colors and wildly intricate figure!  As rare as Amboyna with many of the same attributes, this wood is dense and takes a smooth natural finish when turned.  Trees average 2-3 ft. in diameter and heights can
exceed 80 ft. Natural incursions are normal for the species and can be filled with our crushed minerals like Turquoise and Jade
