Buckeye Burl Turning Wood

Buckeye Burl Turning Wood

Buckeye Burl, Aesculus californica, is one of the most interesting species we carry! We get the burls in whole and mill them right here at our facility into anything from guitar blanks to turning squares. Most pieces have wonderful burl and swirling grain patterns mixed with blue/grey, black & golden color contrast. All pieces have either natural incursions or bark edges that must be worked around. If there is bark on the pieces they cannot be shipped outside of the USA due to strict regulations concerning bark in export. It is useful to stabilize pen blanks and small items with CA glue to obtain a beautiful finish. USA shipping only!

Beautiful “above the ground” blue and gold Buckeye! This is not your ordinary Buckeye as it’s not part of the burl but is from the log portion above ground.  Air dried for several years, see pictures for great color variations.  Some pieces even have fiddleback.  These are virtually free of checks except as noted on only a few blanks and you won’t find the incursions that are typical in Buckeye Burl.  The wood turns easily in comparison to Buckeye Burl.
