Goncalo Alves, also known as Tigerwood or South American Zebrawood originates on the East Coast of Brazil. Huge logs up to six feet in diameter are available, but these large logs usually lack the beautiful dark streaking that makes this wood so desirable. Naturally oily, the wood is dense and takes an incredible polish. We have an exclusive arrangement with several large Brazilian sawmills to pull the most colorful and figured wood for our customers! This is usable for pens, knives, furniture, pistol grips, turned boxes, bowls, peppermills, intarsia, inlay, and many other fancy applications!  These wonderful blanks have been air dried for 1 year and are wax sealed. They contain residual moisture and may shrink slightly or develop a check as they dry. The wax seal usually prevents this from happening, but it can still occur. Please see photos and individual descriptions for any other mention of defects. You’ll love the rich color in this species and the high natural polish it takes. Being a beginning turning wood, Tigerwood is great for everyone!
