Brown Mallee burl is an incredible species with beautiful color and figure. This native Australian timber has a distinctive mix of golden brown heartwood with contrasting white sapwood. The wood is dense and easily yields a smooth, durable finish with light sanding. This rare lumber offers a natural, artistic palette for any artisan. Pieces are ideal for turning projects, boxes, spindles, pens, knives, duck calls and other fine articles. Burl eyes may develop generally small incursions but are commonly very small. Be prepared to fill the incursions with epoxy or a mixture of epoxy and minerals like Turquoise or other fine choices which can be found on our website.

This wood has air dried for 1-1/2 years. Cut blanks are completely wax sealed and may have a rough edge that will easily turn away.Burl caps have been pressure washed to remove all bark. They have a rough chainsaw cut face where they were removed from the log.Small incursions and checks are sometimes present on the cut face of the caps. This is not considered a defect.Cut blanks may contain a small incursion or pin hole in some of the burl eyes.
