American Black Walnut, Juglans nigra, is a classic in woodworking. It is native to the Eastern United States and the Midwest. Walnut trees are a maximum of 95-120 ft. tall with diameters of 2-3 ft. Some trees can have larger diameters if they have ample sun and are not competing with other trees. Black Walnut is easy to mill and glue. It has long been a classic in American furniture building. Black Walnut has a moderate natural luster when finished. The end grain is semi-ring-porous. Uses include furniture, cabinets, interior paneling, veneer, and turned items among many others!
