Collection: Tzalam

Tzalam is a tropical hardwood native to various regions of Central America. It is commonly known by several trade names, including Tzalam, Mayan Walnut, and Tropical Walnut. The tree tends to be slender, rarely exceeding 20 inches in diameter, with typical log lengths between 8 and 12 feet. The most vibrant and colorful logs are often found in eastern Mexico, particularly in well-drained limestone soils. Tzalam is slightly denser than Mahogany and behaves similarly to Red Oak when working or gluing. Its coloration ranges from rich chocolate browns to lighter tans, occasionally accented with black streaks. Some boards bear such a strong resemblance to Hawaiian Koa that even seasoned wood enthusiasts can be misled.
