Collection: Sassafras

Sassafras, sassafras albidum, is a unique North American hardwood species. The leaves of this tree have been historically used directly on wounds for their healing properties. Sassafras grows to heights of 45-60 ft. tall and diameters up to 24 inches. It grows in well drained soils. Root beer is made from the root bark of the Sassafras tree! The wood is fragrant, open grained, and is easy to work and finish. It ranges in color from light to dark brown. Uses include boxes, furniture, boat building, turning, and many more woodworking applications.
