Collection: Olive, Russian

Russian Olive, Elaegnus angustifolia, is a beautiful hardwood that combines rich reddish-brown tones with contrasting white sapwood that can age to bright yellow. This species commonly grows in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The trees grow to heights of 20 to 55 ft. tall with diameters of 12 to 24 inches. The wood is medium in density with grain patterns similar to Catalpa and colors emulating Butternut. This exotic hardwood has a Janka hardness of 1,240 lbf. It is durable yet easy to work, and is surprisingly affordable for an exotic wood species. Russian Olive is perfect for high end woodturning, furniture, and one-of-a-kind projects that need a touch of character.
