Collection: Maple, Silver

Silver Maple, Acer saccharinum, is a medium sized tree that branches quickly and makes a short to medium length log. It is one of the most common Maple species in the USA. Tree trunks can be hollow, providing for a nesting site for many birds. Silver Maple produces a hardwood with a specific gravity of .44, .53 (Basic, 12% MC). The grain has a fine, even texture, making it ideal for a variety of woodworking projects. Easy woodworking properties add to the desirability of this species, though it does have a tendency to burn if high speed cutters are used. Turning, gluing, and finishing are easy with this wood. Silver Maple ranges in color from very light to a golden tone with red/brown shades. Figure and quilting can be present in this species.
