Collection: Locust, Honey

Honey Locust (Gleditsia triacanthos) is a medium to large-sized tree known for its drought tolerance and rapid growth. It is fast growing and develops a broad, attractive canopy that provides excellent shade. In the wild, honey locusts are often recognized by their prominent, protective thorns. The tree produces long, seed-filled pods that are rich in tannins. Honey Locust lumber is moderately dense, naturally resistant to decay, and features an interlocked grain, which can yield striking figure patterns in select logs. However, this grain structure may also lead to tear-out during planing, requiring careful handling. Honey locust is valued in woodworking for applications such as fine furniture, flooring, cabinetry, charcuterie boards, and cutting boards.
