Tuesday Turning Special!

Collection: Elm, Chinese

Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia) is a medium-sized deciduous tree native to parts of Asia, including Japan, Korea, and China. It typically reaches a mature height of 35 to 60 feet and is well-regarded for its resistance to the diseases that commonly affect other elm species. Unlike the ridged bark of many elms, the Chinese elm features distinctive mottled bark. The wood is dense, durable, and known for its excellent workability — it mills well, glues easily, and dries with minimal degrade. Color tones in the wood range from orange and yellow to pink and light tan, making it attractive for both functional and decorative uses. This versatile hardwood is ideal for woodturning and a wide range of woodworking projects. Highly prized for both strength and beauty, Chinese elm is commonly used in the making of furniture, cabinetry, veneer, flooring, turned pieces, longbows, and more. It remains a highly valued species in both horticulture and fine woodworking.
