Box Elder has beautiful colors and exquisite detail, giving great depth to any area with figure. Box Elder is also known as Manitoba Maple and American Maple in Russia. This fast-growing, short-lived tree grows to heights of up to seventy feet with a maximum trunk size of about three and a half feet in diameter. There is much debate as to what causes the beautiful red staining that can occur in this wood. It is often referred to as a Maple with a "royal blush". The wood is soft, has excellent gluing properties and is suitable for boxes, turned articles, and other fine articles.
