Myrtle wood is renowned throughout the Pacific Northwest for its excellent machining and finishing properties as well as its beautiful color, spicy aroma, and figure. Also known as Bay Laurel, California Olive, Pepper wood, or Spice tree, this versatile hardwood grows only in Oregon and Northernmost California. Colors range drastically even in the same log so that a range from golden yellow, green, black, brown, tan, and violet can exist. Each blank is unique, making each project a one of a kind. Burl or fiddleback is a rare quality that very few Myrtle trees possess. Myrtle wood is great for the beginner and expert alike. Due to this, we cannot ship this wood outside of the USA. This material has been specially cut for projects that require micro lumber. It is kiln dried and ready to use. The last 1-2" of our micro lumber can be thinner than measured due to planer snipe. Pieces may have some planer skip. Width can vary 1/8". Thickness may vary slightly. Micro Lumber may have a slight twist/cup/bow that should lay flat with minimal pressure.

It is noteworthy that Brazil was named after this wood due to the fact that the vivid orange and burnt red colors of the wood closely resemble the soil of Brazil. It is still dangerous to travel there to buy exotic timbers because of leftover war munitions that have not been removed because the cost of mine sweeping is deemed to high. As a result many people in these countries are injured or killed every year. The wood is used for marimbas and other instruments. The tap tone is very bright and projects well. It is remarkably similar in density and tone to the revered Brazilian rosewood. Asia. These beautiful turning squares are air dried and ready for your creation! This wood is a true Rosewood that takes an incredibly high polish!

Similar to Cocobolo, another name for Granadillo is Mexican Rosewood. It is easier to work and glues much better than Cocobolo. It is dense and straight with a closed grain structure. Although not a true Rosewood, it is commonly used by many in South America for instrument building under the name Macacauba (Platymiscium pinnatatum). Wood darkens to Rosewood colors. Kiln dried and surfaced on two sides. Nice reds with occasional dark streaks. Amazing tap tone allows these to be used for duck calls. Waxed sealed and ready to use, may have residual moisture. In this yellowish-green colored species, figured logs are the rule but can be quite costly as they are usually cut into veneer. Uses for this fine timber include entire suites, furniture, brush backs, mirror backs, marine uses and many other projects. Interestingly, a large bridge with a single arch of 200' was also made from Ceylon Satinwood. The burning of the wood produces a fragrant, restful aroma that can induce a slumber in many and will kill Canaries. Today, Ceylon satinwood is a rare wood that is used for period reproduction furniture and is priced dearly, especially for figured stock. Dry and Ready to use. Air dried for two years.
