Collection: Andiroba

Carapa guianensis, commonly known as Andiroba, Royal Mahogany, or Crabwood, is a medium-sized hardwood tree that typically grows between 70 and 100 feet tall, with trunk diameters reaching up to 3 feet. The wood has a density range of 0.56 to 0.66 and a Janka hardness of 1,220 lbf (5,430 N). Andiroba is an attractive species that shares many qualities with Brazilian Mahogany, though it is less commonly found on the wood market. Its color ranges from pale red/brown to light pink, and it tends to exhibit deeper, redder hues compared to the golden tones of Brazilian Mahogany, giving it a darker overall appearance. The wood is easy to work with and glues nicely. Quarter-sawn planks often display a high degree of iridescence, adding visual appeal to finished products. Andiroba is widely used for furniture, cabinetry, and flooring. Additional applications include veneer, plywood, trim, boxes, and turned items.
