Collection: Ababa

Ababa, Anthonotha fragrans, is a large, slow growing tropical tree from central western Africa with heights up to 120 ft. and diameters up to 4 ft. The tree prefers to grow in acidic soils in lowlands under 2,200 ft. in elevation. It produces round logs that have only a slightly buttressed stump. It is not commonly logged but produces nice hardwood lumber and veneer that is suitable for fine woodworking projects such as boxes, turned articles, flooring, cabinets and more. Ababa wood cuts, sands, and glues well and takes a nice finish. The sapwood in this beautiful hardwood is creamy white with a small dark heartwood center, leaving a wonderful contrast in many boards that are produced.
