From the genus Shorea, Philippine Mahogany is a Southeast Asian wood that works well and takes a nice finish. Trees range from 60-125 feet tall and 3-6 feet in diameter. The specific gravity of this hardwood is .61. It resembles Mahogany but is not a true Mahogany. Philippine Mahogany can be known by many names, including Light Red Meranti, Yellow Meranti, Balau, White meranti, and others.
