Brosimum paraense, also known as Cardinal wood, Satine, Satina, and Satine rubanne is a dense, fine grained wood that takes a high polish and can be used for anything from musical instruments, fine furniture, flooring, dye wood and intarsia, to inlay, and more.  Bloodwood is related to the rarest wood in the World – Snakewood.  From South America (chiefly Brazil) Bloodwood trees range from 40-70’ tall with diameter of 12” up to 24” for a large tree.  Limbs are generally present in the lower sections of logs and are cut out to produce clear usable lumber.  Dark red stock is getting harder to find; most of the recently imported wood has streaks or light color present. Kiln dried and surfaced on two sides. Please expect a bow or twist from 1/16” to 1/8”.  An occasional small check may be present. A glass like polish is easily attainable when finishing this wood!  Stunning pens, knives, accent stripes, cutting boards, jewelry boxes and humidors are just a few great ideas for this unique and beautiful wood! Some boards will have more surface checks and will be noted and priced with deeper discounts.
