Finely Figured African Makore
African Makore (Tieghemella heckelii) is a beautiful African hardwood that is also commonly known as African Cherry or Douka. Makore trees are large and produce round logs up to 3-4 ft. in diameter. Figured logs are commonly sliced for decorative veneers which are used in yachts and customized aircraft interiors. The grain is commonly interlocked which produces mottled figure and chatoyant shimmer in quarter sawn boards. Colors range from rich red & pink to warm golden colors with opulent iridescent shimmer. A beautiful natural polish is easily attained.
