Suriname Ebony Cookie
Suriname Ebony Cookie
Suriname Ebony, Swartzia ingifolia, also goes by the names Guyana Rosewood and Wamara. The heartwood varies from purple/black color to red/brown with yellow sapwood. Select pieces have variegated streaks that add nice contrast. Suriname Ebony generally contains interlocked grain. This wood is very difficult to work and requires sharp blades. This fine grained hardwood produces a high natural polish that is worth the effort in working. Uses include inlays, fine furniture, turned articles, and other specialty items. This wood has been air drying since 2020. This cookie has checks and splits that make it ideal for epoxy projects. This piece also has a void. Please see pictures for details.
