Exhibition Feather Crotch Claro Walnut Rifle Blank

Claro Walnut Burl (Juglans hindsi) is a unique Walnut species that grows right around the area where Cook Woods is located.  Combining beautiful violet and brownish black streaks and wild figured burl eyes, Claro walnut burl is favored for high end veneer for cars, jets, turned articles, and exquisite jewelry boxes. Most of the supply originates in orchards as either production walnut trees or wind row trees to slow the wind and show property lines. Claro Walnut Burl is a beautiful wood that is in high demand and short supply. It is dense but works and finishes well with the use of a grain sealer. Air dried for 5 years plus. Moisture range is from 7%-10%. Surfaced on two sides. Planer skip is possible. Excellent material! Amazing full length feather crotch. There is a 6" check on one edge that is not on the figured side. This check will be milled away.
