Classic Dark Contrast Desert Ironwood Pen Blank - 3/4”
0.2 lb|5" x 3/4" x 3/4"
INCLUDES 1 WOOD BLANK (several blanks are shown to indicate the range of color/grain to expect). These clean and defect free blanks incorporate rich, dark cappuccino shades with warm golden colors and red undertones; hues will range in intensity and diversity from blank to blank. Desert Ironwood takes an amazingly high natural polish that is glass-like and unequalled. Turning it requires an intermediate level of skill due to its density and blunting effect on tools. For best results, keep tools sharp and cut slowly. The natural oils in the wood allow it to turn fairly easily and yield a result that is matchless! Skill level: Intermediate.
Stunning golden shades with red undertones, brown hues, and black streaks combine with iridescence that truly set this hardwood apart. This wood is partially air dried and completely wax sealed. Pieces with live edges generally will have checks in sapwood areas. End checks and rough edges may be present in some pieces. Desert Ironwood is the densest North American and Northern Mexican species. It takes an incredibly high polish!
