Xylay Lace, Afzelia xylocarpa, grows in South East Asia in a narrow band in deciduous forests. It can reach 90' tall with a trunk up to 5' in diameter in a mature specimen. The wood color is an orange/red. The wood is moderately dense for an exotic yet works and finishes well. It is an open grain wood so a sanding sealer works well for sealing the pours prior to finishing. Seeds of the tree are harvested for local herbal medicinal purposes. The highly-figured lumber is often sold as Afzelia Xylay. The wood is used for ornamental woodturning, pens, knife handles, carvings, and musical instruments.
Dry and ready to use.
