{"title":"Persimmon","description":"\u003cp\u003eAmerican Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) is an exceptionally dense, hard, heavy, and shock-resistant North American hardwood belonging to the same Diospyros genus as true ebonies. Rated around 2,300 on the Janka hardness scale, it is significantly harder than red oak or hickory and is prized for its strength and ability to withstand impact. The wood features a wide creamy-white to caramel-colored sapwood surrounding a much smaller, highly contrasting heartwood that ranges from dark brown to nearly jet black, earning Persimmon the nickname “white ebony.” Traditionally used for golf club heads before the rise of metal and composite clubs, Persimmon is also excellent for pool cues, tool handles, mallets, drumsticks, knife handles, and small turned items. It turns beautifully with sharp tools, although its hardness causes moderate blunting of cutting edges, and it can be polished to a smooth, attractive finish.
