Claro Walnut (Juglans hindsi) is a unique Walnut species that grows right around the area where Cook Woods is located. Combining beautiful violet and brownish black streaks and wild figured burl eyes, Claro walnut burl is favored for high end veneer for cars, jets, turned articles, and exquisite jewelry boxes. Most of the supply originates in orchards as either production walnut trees or wind row trees to slow the wind and show property lines. Claro Walnut Burl is a beautiful wood that is in high demand and short supply. It is dense but works and finishes well with the use of a grain sealer. Air dried for 7 years & ready to use. Surfaced on 2 sides. Contains nice figure. Bark incursions appear in the photos as dark spots. These are large slabs that have some rustic qualities such as checks, knots, etc. Exhibition feather crotch! A few small checks in the crotchwood but it is still usable for making a rifle. You may have to fill a few of the checks but otherwise it will be workable. There is a large split in the piece that goes at an angle from top left to lower right (Please see dark line in photo). It penetrates to both sides of the piece. However, this will still be great for a bar top or counter. Contains live bark edge. Other end opposite of the crotchwood has beautiful AAA+ curly figure. This slab would be great for a table, bar top, or countertop!
