DETAILS

Xylay Lace, Afzelia xylocarpa, grows in Southeast Asia in a narrow band in deciduous forests. It can reach 90' tall with a trunk up to 5' in diameter in a mature specimen. The wood color is an orange/red.  The wood is moderately dense for an exotic yet works and finishes well.  It is an open grained wood so a sanding sealer works well for sealing the pours prior to finishing.  Seeds of the tree are harvested for local herbal medicinal purposes. The highly-figured lumber is often sold as Afzelia Xylay. The wood is used for ornamental woodturning, pens, knife handles, carvings, and musical instruments.  This figure is one of the rarest in the World in this species; it is truly amazing. Perfectly air dried for 8 years and ready to use.

Large swiss cheese caverns. Would be great for artistic pieces.
