Collection: Tzalam

Tzalam is a tropical wood found in many areas of Central America. Its trade names include: Tzalam, Mayan Walnut, tropical Walnut and others. The tree is slender, seldom exceeding 20" in diameter with common log lengths of 8-12 ft. The most colorful logs seem to grow on well draining limestone soil in eastern Mexico. The wood is slightly denser than Mahogany and works and glues similar to Red Oak. Colors range from Chocolate browns to tans with occasional black stripes. Some boards resemble Hawaiian koa so closely that educated wood nuts can even be fooled!
