DETAILS
Silver Maple, Acer saccharinum, generally grows in the Northeastern United States. Trees are often found next to waterways and in wetlands, leading to the name "water maple". Trees commonly grow to heights of 75-110’ tall with diameters of 2-4 ft. The density of the wood ranges from .45 - .52, making it easy to machine with power or hand tools. Lumber from Silver Maple trees is used in the making of furniture, cabinets, flooring, musical instruments, and tool handles. Silver maple produces a sweet sap, but it is generally not used for maple syrup because its sugar content is lower than in other maple species. The wood in this special was cut from a large tree in Oregon that was removed for a City project; we are delighted that we could further the enjoyment this tree has produced over its life. The majority of this tree produced moderate to strong flame figure.
