48 lbs. 88-1/8″ x 24″ max. 14" min x 1-3/4″

DETAILS

Black cottonwood (Populus trichocarpa) grows in the Pacific Northwest. It favors moist, well-drained soil along waterways. The tree has roughly a 125-year life-span and commonly grows 80-100 feet and sometimes up to 150 feet tall. Diameters are 3-4' with a few up to 5' in diameter. The gray bark is thick and deeply fissured. Large leaves are heart shaped and contain summertime cotton tails for which it acquired its name. Since the trees grow in areas with water they were a gathering place for settlers in the 1800's on the Oregon Trail. The wood is soft and can be easily carved for children's toys and games. Thin stock also adapts well to painted or stenciled scroll saw projects. Working properties are similar to Basswood. Approved by the FDA for food containers, cottonwood works well for bowls or other turned articles. Shearing cuts with sharp tools prevents fuzzing that can occur with dull tools.Air dried and surfaced on two sides.

Dry and ready to use. Beautiful live edges. Great color and figure with rustic knots. Great for bar top, end tables, etc" freight not included.

Myrtle Burl is one of our specialty woods, as it is grown and harvested right here in our home state of Oregon, hand selected by us, trucked to our yard, and carefully milled in our facility. Myrtle wood is renowned throughout the Pacific Northwest for its excellent machining and finishing properties as well as its beautiful color, spicy aroma, and figure. Also known as Bay Laurel, California Olive, Pepper wood, or Spice tree, this versatile hardwood grows only in Oregon and Northernmost California. Colors range drastically even in the same log so that a range from golden yellow, green, black, brown, tan, and violet can exist. Each blank is unique, making each project a one of a kind. Burl or fiddleback is a rare quality that very few Myrtle trees possess.  Myrtle wood is great for the beginner and expert alike.

This lumber was cut from a large colorful log with exquisite cluster burl and fiddleback! This wood is kiln dried and surfaced on two sides. Boards have been selected for the maximum amount of figure.  There is 90% or better usable wood in every board. Some may have up to 3 or 4 checks that can be anything from hairline to 2-3” in length. There are some knots present with checks (look for black dots or larger black areas in photos. These are either pin knots or bark incursions). If you are not able to work with a few natural defects please refrain from this highly figured batch. Some of this material is ideal for bass or electric guitars. If you are an instrument maker and are curious to know if a piece fits a certain size template please call us at 1-541-273-0925 and we would be more than happy to check!

Solid spalted chocolate center. 2" x 2" x 1/4" incursions on one face. There are several small bark incursions and some surface checking. USA customers only or $20.00 for removing bark by hand for international customers.
