Also known as Ciricote, this rare species is only found in a small portion of Central America on the Caribbean coast.   Beautiful spider-webbing is present with amazing  patterns.  The variegated stripes produce valleys, plateaus, & mountains that make a stunning landscape figure.  Our Ziricote is imported in log form so that we can control the conversion of the wood in our sawmill.   Trees are commonly 15-20" in diameter with heights of 45-75'. The tree produces an edible fruit and beautiful orange yellow flowers.  The wood is prized locally and is used for carvings, furniture, and handles for knives. It turns to an extremely high glass-like polish.

Kiln dried, surfaced on two sides. Small hairline surface checks are common and present unless otherwise specified.

2" hairline check on one face. 1-1/4" hairline end check at one end on the face and another 1" surface check near it. This easily fits a Gibson J200 inside of the end checking area. Rough edge. Minor planer bite.

Juglans regia emanates from Circassia in the Cacausus Mountain region and is the original Walnut of Europe.  The tree was prized for its walnuts and was planted all throughout Europe and England.  Color variations are due to the varied climates and soil conditions in which the tree grows.  Juglans walnut is translated to "white walnut" so finding dark striping and marble cake figure is the rare exception. This wood has been prized for centuries for firearm stocks and fine furniture. It works and finishes much better than any native American Walnut species.  The grain is exceptionally fine and holds an edge quite well which makes it exceptional for checkering on rifle and shotgun stocks.

English Walnut from the USA is typically grown in orchards where the stump (root system) is California Claro Walnut (Juglans hindsii) grafted to the thin shelled English Walnut.  English Walnut trees are generally small due to a weaker root system and do not produce a large amount of nuts. Claro Walnut root systems are very strong and in a sense turbo charge the growth of walnuts which is the goal of the nut producers.  A plentiful thin shelled nut of high quality is produced.  A wonderful by-product of the grafting is a California Claro Walnut burl underground and a larger than usual English Walnut trunk.  Black or dark streaks are produced in a small amount of trees and there is a lot of discussion as to why certain trees have more of the desired streaking while others may not have any at all.  When trees produce exceptionally large trunks and stunning striping, they are often used for firearms. Rifle blanks often sell for between $500 to $2,500 with some stock blanks fetching upwards of $5,000 each!

Kiln dried and surfaced on two sides. Ready to use. Nice colorful boards with contrasting grain. May have bark incursions or small surface checks. 95% clean or better. Great for knives, pistol grips, or other small projects!

Numbered end goes down to 4-3/4" in width. 8" check on widest point on sapwood edge and goes 1" deep. 7" end check on the numbered end. This check is on the same sapwood edge as the 8" check. We are not billing for the sapwood edge. Shotgun butt stock.

Dalbergia tucerensis (Panama Rosewood) is a true rosewood from equatorial America.  This species is also known as Nicaraguan or Guatemalan rosewood and Granadillo.  This is a little known species that is used for fancy boxes, marimbas, guitars, ukuleles, and other high end applications.  The wood has a bright ringing tap tone with good sustain.  The wood works easily and has iridescent shimmer in quarter sawn stock. Colors are usually even brown with a hint of red or dark stripes in some boards. There is a very limited supply available.

It has been carefully kiln dried and surfaced on two sides. A few pieces have pin holes which produce beautiful black striping. This is very typical of true Rosewoods. There is occasional planer skip/rough surface on some boards. There are only 200’ board feet available – purchase quickly before it sells out! This species has open grain and it sometimes will have an appearance of small surface checks but they are not checks. Some boards are great for instruments and others are great for small craft projects.

1/16" bow and cup. There is planer skip on one face. 6" rough edge on narrow end. This piece could easily fit a Gibson J200 inside. We have drawn a template on for ease of finding placement. Rift to flat sawn.

This board fits a Gibson J200. There is an 8" split to the right of the numbers that does not effect the template for a Gibson J200. We have redrawn the template and it is now flipped and directly below the numbers (the upper bout is directly below the numbers and the lower bout is at the bottom of the board.) since the photos were taken because the split. There is, however, a good spot in the board where the template fits with no defects. There is nice, even flowing grain on the unaffected side without color irregularities.

Amazing color with marbled variegations. Nice tap tone with good sustain. Quarter to flat sawn. There is a 1" surface check at edge at end that would easily fall out of a template area.
