DETAILS

Yellowheart (Euxylophora paraensis or common name Pau Amarello) grows on Brazil's Eastern coastline from the equator South to Rio.  The color in the heartwood is a pronounced vivid yellow with creamy white sapwood.  There is striping if one looks closely at the grain between the rings.  It is also called Brazilian Satinwood for the iridescent ribbon figure that is in quarter sawn stock.  Our stock is kiln dried and surfaced on two faces.  It works and glues well, taking a high polish since the wood is dense and durable.  It is a light, subtle figure that is not as pronounced as fiddleback or curl but still adds depth & extra beauty to the wood.  Boards may have a rough edge or small end/surface check. 95 percent free of defects. May have minor planer bite.

Heavy figure. Quarter sawn.

Myrtle Burl is one of our specialty woods, as it is grown and harvested right here in our home state of Oregon, hand selected by us, trucked to our yard, and carefully milled in our facility. Myrtle wood is renowned throughout the Pacific Northwest for its excellent machining and finishing properties as well as its beautiful color, spicy aroma, and figure. Also known as Bay Laurel, California Olive, Pepper wood, or Spice tree, this versatile hardwood grows only in Oregon and Northernmost California. Colors range drastically even in the same log so that a range from golden yellow, green, black, brown, tan, and violet can exist. Each blank is unique, making each project a one of a kind. Burl or fiddleback is a rare quality that very few Myrtle trees possess.  Myrtle wood is great for the beginner and expert alike.

This lumber was cut from a large colorful log with exquisite cluster burl and fiddleback! This wood is kiln dried and surfaced on two sides. Boards have been selected for the maximum amount of figure.  There is 90% or better usable wood in every board. Some may have up to 3 or 4 checks that can be anything from hairline to 2-3” in length. There are some knots present with checks (look for black dots or larger black areas in photos. These are either pin knots or bark incursions). If you are not able to work with a few natural defects please refrain from this highly figured batch. Some of this material is ideal for bass or electric guitars. If you are an instrument maker and are curious to know if a piece fits a certain size template please call us at 1-541-273-0925 and we would be more than happy to check!

There are only a few surface checks and bark incursions on each face. Really good condition! USA customers only or $20.00 for removing bark by hand for international customers.

Asia, it is also called Asian Satinwood on the US market.  Trees are typically 40-75' tall with diameter of 2-3' average with some larger. The close-up with the quarter shows the excellent depth of curl in these boards. Dry and ready to use.

3 lbs. 37″ x 4-3/4″ x 3/16″

DETAILS

Related to Brazilian Kingwood (Dalbergia caerensis), this beautiful Rosewood is rich with vivid purple & violet colors. Though related to Kingwood, the colors in this wood are more intense and the grain more demarcated. No two boards are alike; this is a very diverse and unique wood. Camatillo comes from Central America where it is selectively logged by hand and harvested from the forest by mules in an environmentally friendly manner. The grain in this wood is rarely straight and generally is figured. There is sapwood on most boards as the tree is relatively small, producing less heartwood than many Rosewoods. This extremely rare Rosewood species holds its purple color better than any other Rosewood.  Air dried since 2005 & surfaced on two sides.  These have nice acoustic sound!  Since this is Camatillo expect to have twist cup bow or a combination.  These are all excellent but will need special care.
