Myrtle is one of our specialty woods, as it is grown and harvested right here in our home state of Oregon, hand selected by us, trucked to our yard, and carefully milled in our facility. Myrtle wood is renowned throughout the Pacific Northwest for its excellent machining and finishing properties as well as its beautiful color, spicy aroma, and figure. Also known as Bay Laurel, California Olive, Pepper wood, or Spice tree, this versatile hardwood grows only in Oregon and Northernmost California. Colors range drastically even in the same log so that a range from golden yellow, green, black, brown, tan, and violet can exist. Each blank is unique, making each project a one of a kind. Burl or fiddleback is a rare quality that very few Myrtle trees possess. Myrtle wood is great for the beginner and expert alike.
The log is air dried for 3 yrs. Lost 1/2 orig. moisture, still moisture, in process of being dried. We can dry it, or take as is. We charge 75$ for drying. Pictures taken shortly after cut. 3-5 months is needed for full dry time. As it dries, may develop some surface checks, as is expected with original pieces such as these. On the surface there is some abrasion from saw blade on the original cut, the blade hit a rock while going through the base of first cut. Just on the surface will come out easily. NOTE: Cannot ship outside the U.S.A due to bark.
Shows burls eyes really well! Beautiful color and figure!
