W16683 specs.:
28 lbs. 20″ max. x 10-1/8″ max. x 4-3/8″ max.

The Coolibah tree (Eucalyptus microtheca), featured in the song, “Waltzing Matilda”, produces one of the hardest and strongest timbers in the world. This species is widely distributed over Northern Australia, commonly found along rivers and heavy soils of flood plains. Coolibah (pronounced Cool-a-bah) is also referred to as Flooded Box, and Western Coolibah. This species is exceptional in that it grows throughout a very large area of Australia, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions, excluding Victoria and Tasmania. In these areas it prefers to inhabit seasonally flooded stream banks and riverbeds. It has bark that can be smooth with white or gray coloration or rough and fibrous with gray to gray-black coloration. It has been grown in the Southwestern United States for some time, including arid regions that can get quite cold. W16683: Excelent tight fiddlback.  Each face and edge have checks that range from 1/16″ up to 1/4″ deep.  There will be some waste but what you are able to get for knives, boxes, and pens will amaze all!

Favored as an ornamental tree in the West were it grows in the wild on the edges of meadows and forest openings.  A favorite grove for leary Elk and Mule Deer. Stark white bark with leaves shimmering in the breeze.  The wood is lightweight and takes a finish easily (although it absorbs a lot).  Easy to mill with a tendance to have fuzzy grain until sanded.  Heartwood colors are light brown streaks that usually saturate individual growth rings around the  trees pith.   Sapwood is a suitable white substitute for American Holly.  The wood dries easily with a marked tendency to stain if care is not taken. Our stock is from the USA and Canada. W16685: 24″ clean length.  The wood next to the sapwood is white and is a great Holly substitute.  Live bark edge.  A few sticker stains.
