W16558: Cocobolo Rosewood. Cocobolo grows on a thin band along the Pacific Coast of Mexico down through Central America. Our stock is selectively cut and logged by hand in Mexico, squared by chainsaw, and drug out of the forest by Mules. This is a very environmentally low impact procedure. Cocobolo is a true Rosewood, similar in color & tap tone to Brazilian Rosewood and considered to be a good substitute. It is denser than most Rosewoods and oilier. For best results in gluing, epoxy is recommended. Cocobolo has great working properties & turns to a naturally high polish. The colors range from any combination of orange, red, yellow, & black to violet. For this reason, it has also been called rainbow wood. Mexico and Central America. Dry and surfaced.  2″ check on edge of face near the sapwood. 3/8″ cut crown.  Pin holes in sapwood.

W16559: Quartersawn Honduras Rosewood. Very rare on the World Market, this Rosewood cannot ship outside of the USA. As is true of Rosewoods, this species has excellent acoustic properties with well balanced highs & lows. Honduras Rosewood is favored for Marimba bars. Colors range from light violets to light reds. Honduras Rosewood works well and finishes to a high natural polish. For a period of time, it was considered the only suitable Brazilian Rosewood substitute.  Classic dark violet Honduras Rosewood.  The wood of choice for marimba’s and other musical instruments.  USA only. Spalted white specks near the heartwood edge. 4″ end check on edge. 65% clear of defects.
