Emanating From Asia, this unique species (though not a true rosewood) shares many of the same colors and working properties of the true Dalbergias. The wood ranges in color from warm oranges and reds to almost black streaks. The streaks are very defined, unlike many woods. The wood is a bit stringy on the edges when milled but sanding or scraping removes this with little effort. This is one of our new favorites that is becoming popular quickly! Limited supply. Asia. All three of these have nice colors.  Air dried for 2 years and wax sealed.  These are ideal for vessel blanks!  Twice turned method would work nicely.  All have rough edges / faces that will turn clean.

KHAMPHI ROSEWOOD: Dalbergia cultrata, also called “cultrata rosewood”, is from Southeast Asia in what has been in the past a politically unstable environment. It is still dangerous to travel there to buy exotic timbers because of leftover war munitions that have not been removed because the cost of mine sweeping is deemed to high. As a result many people in these countries are injured or killed every year. The wood is used for marimbas and other instruments. The tap tone is very bright and projects well. It is remarkably similar in density and tone to the revered Brazilian rosewood. W13910: 7″ split on one end.

Partially air dried for 1-1/2 years.  Wax sealed.  Some have contrasting sapwood edges!
