From the Equatorial forests of Africa’s Western Congo, this hardwood has beautiful deep & golden yellow colors. Once in a while there is a figured log that makes it through that is not cut into veneer.  The wood is dense and somewhat difficult to work and is used for anything from cabinets to floors, jewelry boxes and fine turnings. This batch is kiln dried and surfaced.  There are several with nice figure.  A few will have some planer skip and possible a rough edge. W16820: Planer skip on one face, and a few 1/8″ pin holes.

Most burls are very delicate requiring years of knowledge and experience to carefully cut and season. Camphor is usually available in veneer form and occasionally blocks and squares. We sell a lot of camphor for electric guitars as it makes a delightful top! Smelling of root beer the fragrance is either loved or despised. Most like the smell although it can be very strong with green stock. South east Asia. Dry and ready to use.  Wax sealed ends.  Lots of burl eyes.

Combining beautiful violet and brownish black streaks with the browns or Eastern walnut (Juglans Nigra). Slightly heavier and finer grain than Honduras Mahogany, this species is also called Sapele Mahogany. Originating from Africa, this species has beautiful, lustrous iridescence with colors that range from light pink to brown and gold to red. Interlocked grain. Stable in use.
