Redwood is in the family of the largest living trees that have ever been on planet earth! Coastal redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) are the tallest trees but their cousin, the giant Sequoia (Sequoia gigantium) take the record for the largest living tree in the World. In the mid 1800′s logging operations commenced in the forests where these beautiful trees grow, leaving behind a path of stumps and logs that were deemed unusable. Today, stumps and logs less than 16′ long are being extracted from these areas. Most of this salvaged wood still produces solid wood that has been aged and slowly dried over a hundred or more years. Redwood is suitable for large tables, bar tops, mantles, cabinets, Guitar tops, and turnings. Figured boards are sometimes available with flamed fiddle back or burl eyes and can produce beautiful bass or electric guitars. Our Redwood is all salvaged. Very fancy! W12345: bark incursions

Hawaiian Koa has been treasured for hundreds of years by the Hawaiians. They have used it for anything from outrigger canoes, paddles, boxes, furniture, to recently Ukuleles. It is an excellent tone wood which produces a rich, warm sound. Supply of Koa is getting scarce as the Hawaiians have only recently started replanting their beloved Hawaiian Koa trees. Koa is renowned for its iridescent shimmer and luscious color which ranges from tan to warm gold with brown and black accents. The iridescence in this wood is particularly exceptional on the quarter. Workability of Hawaiian Koa is similar to Genuine Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla). It has open grain and works well. W12350: Rustic grade curly Koa.  Lots of color and curl! W12351: Kiln dried and surfaced on two sides.  There are hairline surface checks on one end of one face.  These are very shallow.  Lots of wild colors and figured.

This oil is also appreciated for skin healing attributes and the healing of stomach problems. The wood  turns to an absolute color reflective finish that is incredibly smooth. Ideal for use where lubrication is impractical or impossible and is great for use as bearings pulleys and other mechanical applications.  Some surface checks on the sapwood face.  These are shallow and shoule easily turn away.  Dry and ready to use.

Cocobolo is a true Rosewood, similar in color & tap tone to Brazilian Rosewood and considered to be a good substitute. It is denser than most Rosewoods and oilier. For best results in gluing, epoxy is recommended. Cocobolo has great working properties & turns to a naturally high polish. The colors range from any combination of orange, red, yellow, & black to violet. For this reason, it has also been called rainbow wood. Mexico and Central America. W12353: Heavy variegations. W12354: 3/16″ crown.  A nice flat board with some areas of incredible figure and colors!

Also known as Indian Apple, this unique species from South America has golden sapwood when first milled that darkens to a rich American Cherry color within a month or two. The heartwood is marketed in veneer form as Tineo. Heartwood colors are strikingly beautiful with a bluish black variegated stripe through pinkish red. Steinway Piano Company makes a high end grand piano out of this wood! Tineo is unstable until dried with considerable shrikage during the drying process.

Our larger turning stock is sold freshly cut and will need to be twice turned or allowed to move after shaping. Lumber is dry and usually surfaced on two sides. The wood is easy to work and glues well. Subtle and very exotic! This is an unusual species with blue -black variegated stripes.  Easy to work with hand and power tools obtaining a nice polish when finished.  These blanks are generally quarter or rift sawn.  Kiln dried and wax sealed.  Some have slightly higher moisture contents. A few rough edges are possible.
