Cordia sp. originates from NE South America. Its color typically falls between Ziricote and Bocote and is related to both species. It has a nice slightly spicy fragrance when worked. This was cut from a dead standing tree that has dried slowly for at least 20 years in Costa Rica! The wood contains only a small amount of residual moisture. As you know it is very difficult to get dry exotics that are as thick as what we are offering! Burl caps and cuts have some areas of soft spalting and small voids. The caps are ideal for turning or using for clocks, or other display pieces. Outside cuts with live edges will have some checks or splits. There is one slab that would be ideal for a headboard for a one of a kind bed. Most blanks are wax sealed or end sealed.
Tree was dead standing for 20 years. The outside of burl is soft. Checks and splits in live edges, we purposely pictured most checks/splits. There is good wood to work with inside. You must be able to work with defects, if not, you should not buy this item.
