Claro Walnut Burl (Juglans hindsi) is a unique Walnut species that grows right around the area where Cook Woods is located. Combining beautiful violet and brownish black streaks and wild figured burl eyes, Claro walnut burl is favored for high end veneer for cars, jets, turned articles, and exquisite jewelry boxes. Most of the supply originates in orchards as either production walnut trees or wind row trees to slow the wind and show property lines. Claro Walnut Burl is a beautiful wood that is in high demand and short supply. It is dense but works and finishes well with the use of a grain sealer.
This wood has been kiln dried and is surfaced on two sides. There are very few if any minor imperfections in the boards. We have carefully milled out the majority of defects so that only a few boards have a knot, pin hole, minor check, an incursion near the edge or a rough edge. Boards may have a slight bow or twist generally under 1/8”. A 3/16” crown may be present. All boards are 95% clean or better. The grain patterns range from marbled to fiddleback, wavy beautiful grain, or a mixture of figure & color.
Partially kiln dried and has lost approximately 70% of it's original moisture. Has been heat treated. 3/16" bow and crown.
