Argentine Lignum Vitae (or Vera) is a high quality timber that is native to South America, growing around the borders of Argentina, Bolivia & Paraguay. Also called Palo Santo, which means "holy wood" in Spanish, the heartwood in this wood ranges from brown, black to green with thin yellow sapwood that offers nice contrast. Most pieces appear green in color. Changes to a beautiful blue green hue when aged for a short period of time after working. Specific gravity of this species is between .92 and 1.1. This wood is highly fragrant, in fact, its oil of Guaiac (or guayacol) is used as an ingredient in perfumes. This oil is also appreciated for skin healing attributes and the healing of stomach problems. The wood turns to an absolute color reflective finish that is incredibly smooth.
