Kelobra Known as Kelobra, parota, Guanacaste, and rain tree. Heavy when freshly cut, it quickly dries and retains little of its original wet weight. A hardwood, it is used for cabinets and furniture where it is indigenous. Called a Koa substitute in the states, it is similar in appearance and easier to work. Stable in service. Trees of 24-48" diameter are the average with some shade trees much larger in diameter. Central America. There are three surface checks on one face that will easily turn off. Spanish Cedar
2 Pack Cedrela spp. Also known as Cedro or Brazilian cedar. Light red with golden browns. This is used extensively in the states for cigar box liners. It is also used for pattern making and boat building. Machining the wood generally requires good dust collection equipment as the aromatic smell is quite pungent when milling. These are nice boards that are well suited for lining cigar boxes. Brazil

Fraxinus
velutina (velvety) This is the only ash found in the west. Growing in a
thin band from southern Californa to British Columbia Canada in lower
elevations. Oregon ash is the most valuable hardwood in the West Coast. It
is slightly less dense than its Eastern counterpart but is still dense and
durable. Selected logs have purple streaked hearts creating stunning
visual effects. Uses include: cabinets, furniture, boxes, flooring, and
high end articles. West Coast. This is a nice assortment of mostly clean
boards.

Prunis sp. A slender sub canopy tree in the western forests of the north west. Shorter branchy trees are produced if grown in open areas. Generally the trees are no larger than 12" in diameter although they can grow larger. Heights are 30-50' on average. The wood is easy to mill and glues and finishes well. There are pronounced green streaks in wild cherry with a light tan background. These are great for a small sized project. There are a couple of small checks and a few knots. Dry and ready to use.

White Oak Oregon white oak grows predominately in the beautiful willamette valley through western Oregon. A dense and durable wood that is used for anything from boat timbers, cabinets, furniture, and wine barrels. When cut on the quarter it produces beautiful flecking caused from cutting the rays paralell to there growth from the center of the tree outwards to the bark. This board is well quartersawn and dry.

Muninga Pterocarpus sp. Also known as kiiat, muninga is a beautiful species from south eastern Africa. The wood is used locally for carving African animals for the tourist trade. Cook Woods has several beautiful giraffes that were hand carved from solid muninga logs and are as tall as 12 feet! Guests are welcome to see them. The wood is easy to work and glues and carves well. Colors include red, brown, golden, black, and straw. Muninga is related to Narra from SE Asia that produces Amboyna burl.

Tiete Chestnut Emanating from the eastern forests of Brazil. The wood is dense, durable and coarse grain lend it to uses in floors and stairs. Colors range from reddish browns to goldens. There is a lot of contrast in the wood between a light golden and darker reddish browns giving it a neat appearance that is similar to Wenge. Suitable for boxes, furniture, floors, stair treads, and marine applications. Use a sanding sealer to obtain the best finish. This is a nice pair of matching grain boards! Kiln dried and ready to use. Slight planer hit and miss. Both of these boards are the same size.

Verdecillo Verdecillo is the common name for this wood in Southern Mexico. Also called Mexican greenheart and Verdecillo. It is no relation to the green heart from Suriname. The wood is dense and closed grain enabling the wood to take a glassy smooth polish without the use of a sanding sealer. Colors range from fluorescent lime green (sawdust) to leaf green, brown, and red. It is a fine wood which is suitable to use in fine articles, turnery, and box construction. Our stock is logged by hand and hauled out of the mountains with mules. Mexico. There is planer hit and miss on both sides.

Figured
Peroba Rosa There is a 10" end check present at the end. Wax sealed with nice colors ranging from pink, red, brown, and creamy white. There is some figure present. A few checks in the edge also. Scarce on the market. Columbia south to Brazil.
