Black Palm is a member of the grass family. This slender Palm is seldom  more than 5-8" in diameter, with a hollow center. A very large square would be 2" x 2" with the average being 1" x 1".  Lengths up to 4 ft are possible. This turns better than Red Palm (because it is dense with closer fibers).  Use CA glue to aide in finishing. Black Palm is somewhat challenging to turn because of the fibrous nature of the wood. It goes from being very dense in the black material to less dense in the cream colored material.  This is the reason it can be challenging to work. This material can be glued up to make boards of your choice width because the squares that we sell are perfectly square.  Once you glue up the material, surface it to your desired thickness and it is very difficult if not impossible to tell  where it has been glued together.
